Principle of Meta Filter

  • The meta filter operates on the principle of surface and depth filtration, using metal meshes or sintered metal to filter out particles from fluids.
  • It can handle high temperatures and pressures, making it suitable for demanding applications.

Construction of Meta Filter

  1. Filter Medium: Metal mesh or sintered metal, often stainless steel, bronze, or other corrosion-resistant metals.
  2. Filter Housing: A robust metal housing to contain the filter medium.
  3. Support Structure: Ensures the filter medium remains in place and handles high pressure.
  4. Inlet/Outlet Ports: For fluid entry and exit.

Working

  1. The fluid flows through the inlet port into the filter housing.
  2. As the fluid passes through the metal mesh or sintered metal, particles are trapped on the surface or within the pores.
  3. The filtered fluid exits through the outlet port.
  4. Periodically, the filter is cleaned by backwashing or other mechanical methods to remove accumulated particles.

Uses

  • Chemical processing
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Food and beverage industry
  • High-temperature and high-pressure applications

Merits

  • High durability and longevity.
  • Can handle high temperatures and pressures.
  • Reusable after cleaning.
  • Effective for both coarse and fine filtration.

Demerits

  • Higher initial cost compared to other filters.
  • Requires regular maintenance and cleaning.

Limited flexibility in pore size once manufactured
