Peripheral Nervous System U-4

Peripheral Nervous System & Special Senses – B Pharma 1st Semester Notes (AKTU & PCI)

At FirstHope, we provide detailed yet simplified notes on the Peripheral System (PNS) and Special Senses, as per the B Pharma 1st semester Human Anatomy and Physiology syllabus. This unit plays a vital role in understanding how the body responds to external stimuli.

Understanding the peripheral nervous system and special senses is essential in B Pharmacy as it forms the basis for pharmacological action and drug targeting in neurological and sensory disorders

The PNS is classified into the somatic and autonomic nervous systems. Furthermore, the autonomic system is divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. While the sympathetic system controls “fight or flight” responses, the parasympathetic system handles “rest and digest” functions. Together, they regulate essential involuntary activities.

In addition, the origin and functions of cranial and spinal nerves are discussed, explaining how they transmit signals between the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral organs.

Moreover, the special senses section includes the eye, ear, nose, and tongue. Their structure and functions are explained alongside common disorders like cataracts, deafness, anosmia, and taste disturbances.

Overall, our notes are exam-focused, easy to understand, and aligned with AKTU and PCI syllabus, making them ideal for both semester and GPAT preparation.
