Unit 1
Benzene & It’s Derivative
Unit I covers benzene and its derivatives, including its structure, resonance, aromaticity (Hückel’s rule), electrophilic substitution reactions, effects of substituents, and the structure and uses of compounds like DDT, Saccharin, BHC, and Chloramine.

Unit 2
Phenols, Amines & Acids
Unit II covers phenols, aromatic amines, and aromatic acids. Topics include acidity of phenols, effects of substituents, tests, and uses of compounds like phenol, cresols, resorcinol, and naphthols. Also covered are the basicity of aromatic amines, aryl diazonium salts, and benzoic acid reactions.

Unit 3
Fats & Oils
Unit III covers fats and oils, including reactions of fatty acids, processes like hydrolysis, hydrogenation, saponification, and rancidity. It also explains drying oils and key analytical constants such as acid value, saponification value, iodine value, ester value, acetyl value, and RM value.

Unit 4
Polynuclear Hydrocarbons
Unit IV focuses on polynuclear hydrocarbons, covering their synthesis and reactions. It includes the structure and medicinal uses of naphthalene, phenanthrene, anthracene, diphenylmethane, triphenylmethane, and their derivatives.
Unit 5
Cycloalkanes
Unit V covers cycloalkanes, focusing on their stability. It includes Baeyer’s strain theory and its limitations, Coulson and Moffitt’s modification, and Sachse-Mohr’s theory of strainless rings. Reactions of cyclopropane and cyclobutane are also discussed.
