Unit III Summary: Anti-Arrhythmic, Anti-Hyperlipidemic, Coagulants & CHF Drugs

This unit focuses on heart-related medicines. First, it covers anti-arrhythmic drugs. These are used to treat irregular heartbeats. Examples include Quinidine sulphate, Procainamide hydrochloride, and Disopyramide phosphate*. Other important drugs are Phenytoin sodium, Lidocaine hydrochloride, and Mexiletine hydrochloride. Moreover, Amiodarone and Sotalol are also used for rhythm control.

Next, the unit explains anti-hyperlipidemic agents. These drugs help lower cholesterol levels. For instance, Clofibrate and Lovastatin reduce fat in the blood. Additionally, Cholestyramine and Cholestipol are used to bind cholesterol in the gut.

Then, it talks about coagulants and anticoagulants. Coagulants like Menadione and Acetomenadione help in blood clotting. On the other hand, Warfarin* and Anisindione are anticoagulants. These prevent blood clots. Clopidogrel is another blood thinner that reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Finally, the unit includes drugs for congestive heart failure (CHF). Digoxin and Digitoxin improve heart function. In addition, Nesiritide helps reduce pressure in the heart. Bosentan and Tezosentan are used to manage pulmonary hypertension.

At FirstHope, we provide BPharm notes that are topic-wise, easy to understand, and designed strictly as per the AKTU and Other Universities, hence designed according to PCI syllabus.
