- CNS effects (dysphoria, tremors, seizures from normeperidine)
- Respiratory depression
- Dry mouth
- Tachycardia (anticholinergic)
Notes:
- Not for chronic use: toxic metabolite (normeperidine) accumulates
- Shorter duration than morphine
