Pharmacy Council of India (PCI)

Constitution:

  • The Central Government constitutes the PCI under Section 3 of the Act.
  • Members include:
    • President and Vice President (elected by the members of the Council).

    • Six members (at least) nominated by the Central Government, including representatives from medical and pharmaceutical faculties.
    • One member representing the University Grants Commission (UGC).
    • One member representing the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Functions of Pharmacy Council of India:

  2. Recognition of Qualifications: Approve courses of study and examinations that lead to recognized pharmacy qualifications.
  3. Inspection: Inspect institutions offering pharmacy courses to verify if they meet the required standards.
  4. Maintenance of the Central Register: Keep a central register of pharmacists, which compiles details from all state registers.
