- Plasma drug concentration time profile shows drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination phases in pharmacokinetics.
Plasma Drug Concentration-Time Profile
- A graph that represents the concentration of a drug in plasma over time, used to assess and analyze each ADME phase.
Phases of the Profile:
-
Absorption Phase
- Drug enters the bloodstream, increasing plasma concentration until it reaches Cmax (maximum concentration).
-
Distribution Phase
- Drug disperses to tissues. Influenced by blood flow, lipophilicity, and protein binding.
-
Metabolism and Elimination Phase
- Drug is metabolized (mainly in the liver) and excreted, leading to a decline in plasma concentration.
Represents total drug exposure over time. Helps in determining half-life (t₁/₂), clearance (Cl), and volume of distribution (Vd).
